How long do I have to wait to walk again?
Post Op Patient Reply I started my daily walks WITH the boot after 2 1/2 weeks. and then after the 4 weeks I walked daily in my regular tennis shoes
Post Op Patient Reply I was able to walk as soon as I left the surgery center! and I live on the 3rd floor of my complex
Post Op Patient Reply You walk out of the surgery center afterwards. You are supposed to stay off of it as much as possible for the next few days but I was back to work and walking through airports days later.
Post Op Patient Reply The post-surgery boot stays on for five days. Basically, I kept it elevated and iced it during those days. I walked to the bathroom, kitchen, computer room. Once I got to my destination, I elevated it on a chair. Then, for the first post-op appointment (5 days following surgery), you receive a different boot. You can walk immediately on your foot while you wear the new boot. If you walk on it too much, you will know. Then, just elevate it again and ice it. I flew home a week after surgery for the Christmas holidays. Everyone is amazed how well I got around after surgery, especially people who have suffered with bunion surgery. My mom is scheduling her foot surgery with Dr. Moy because she cannot get over my recovery.
Post Op Patient Reply I walked regularly right away.
Post Op Patient Reply I walked on a limited basis from the day on surgery on. It was only 10 minutes per hour for the first few days, but I could get around my house easily.

Is there really pain after the surgery?
Post Op Patient Reply I had the surgery on both feet in the past few months and I can honestly say there was no pain. I took a half of one Vicoden on the 3rd day after the first surgery because my foot was throbbing a little, but other than that I never took so much as an aspirin. It is certainly uncomfortable and awkward to walk around in the boot for a few weeks but it is not painful.
Post Op Patient Reply I had no pain for the first week. There were two days of shooting pain resolved with vicodan. There is sensitivity around the area but no pain
Post Op Patient Reply I experienced no pain
Post Op Patient Reply I had no pain after surgery and did not take any pain medication.
Post Op Patient Reply None at all. I did not even take a Tylenol with my 2nd surgery. My first I took 1 Tylenol.
Post Op Patient Reply I never had any pain, as amazing as that is. Not any at all.

At what point can I get my foot wet after surgery?
Post Op Patient Reply I shower without the rubber boot, 2 days after the stitched came out, which was about 2 1/2 weeks after surgery
Post Op Patient Reply Once you get your stitches out you are pretty much free and clear to ditch the protective boot and get your foot wet.
Post Op Patient Reply I was able to get my foot wet after the 2nd week
Post Op Patient Reply After you clip off the ends of the dissolving stitches two weeks post-surgery.
Post Op Patient Reply Once you get your stitches out (around 12 days) and everything looks good, you can get your foot wet. Around 2 weeks would be the estimate.
Post Op Patient Reply I got shower whitout cover my foot the second day after remove stitches.

How does one travel in an airplane a week after surgery?
Post Op Patient Reply your biggest concern in this situation is swelling. I would consult Dr. Moy to confirm air travel is ok and for recommendations on reducing pain and swelling in a pressurized cabin.
Post Op Patient Reply Sorry, I didnt need to fly
Post Op Patient Reply Buy a few disposable instant ice packs to use on the airplane.
Post Op Patient Reply N/A
Post Op Patient Reply Make use of the airport wheel chairs and transport carts. You must request the wheelchair when you make your reservation and then remind them when you check in. Wear the aircast and remove it while seated. Be sure the exercise your legs (see flight magazine) frequently and drink water to prevent blood clots in your legs. Try to find a flight that is not booked full and you might be fortunate enough to get a row to yourself so you can sit sideways and elevate your foot. Sit in the back (or first class) close to the restroom! I just flew from CA to FL, then IL and back to CA with no problems. Good luck

What makes this procedure different from any other bunion surgery? I have had my consult was told that my bunion is on the severe side and will require screws or pins and the bone would be removed. I would be on crutches and in a cast for more than three weeks. Anyone have a comment or advice? Iam very worried about the whole procedure.
